BISS LIST 07.20.17 : BLUES TRAVELER / NOICE! / SMOKED OUT SOUL / OASIS SF / PAMELA PARKER / VICTOR LITTLE / VINYL / SAM CHASE / SEUN KUTI & EGYPT 80

Hello Music Lovers!  Lovers may not be the right word. How about freaks? Yes, Music Freaks! You know who you are. We are those who are always looking for that next musical fix. We have been obsessed with it for as long as we can remember and to this day, no matter our age and no matter the hour. It's always there.

Folks with our condition are so lucky to be in the Bay Area where the live music options are nearly endless for every genre almost any night of the week. There is so much for all us to choose from because the music of the world comes to us, nightly.

Do you remember the first band you fell for? That band that you just had to see over and over anywhere & anytime they would play. You might sleep outside of the University Union to be at the front of the line to get the BEST seats! You might poorly plan a road trip or two in pursuit of that next gig. I know the answer for many of you might be the Grateful Dead. Of course! So the next one after that? Widespread? Phish? String Cheese? Too many to name!

Truth be told, Blues Traveler was the one for me! They are still one of my faves to this day! This tour celebrates thirty years as a touring band. Not saying I have been hooked on them that long cause that would just date me... But I feel like I haven't seen them in a 100 years even though I saw them play an epicly old school set at Jazzfest in NOLA earlier this year. So believe me  when I tell you I am more than a little excited that they are returning to the Bay Area this week... Anyone who knows me from back in the day, knows this and anyone who knows me now knows it must be true because it's rare for me to leave the city, let alone to make my way to San Jose and for a 5 pm show. And just wait, my optimistic thoughts might conquer me and the girl inside my head will convince me to catch the BT set in Sacramento on Monday to stay all in the groove. No need to be
mulling it over!

So this weekend kicks off early, because it starts on Thursday with Blues Traveler plus Ben Henderson & Friends plus Socorra @ Music in the Park at Plaza De Cesar Chavez.

When we get back to the city, we will be dropping by Asiento in the Mission for NOICE! Our friends, DJ Just & Dj B positive will be spinning the disco funk house boogie all night! From there, it's just a little jump down the street to 6th & Mission to Monarch for Smoked Out Soul's Winter Baby Summer Party feat DJ FOX and of course ZEBUEL, Will Magid, Paul Oliphant and Enrique Padilla (**WIN TICKETS**).

Of course, as always there are many other excellent musical selections on the BISS List calendar for Thursday (and every other night). We do our best to keep our calendar updated for you with all the events we think you might want to know about. http://bit.ly/bisslistcalendar

Friday... What are YOU doing Friday night? I am kicking mine off in SOMA with another fabulous live drag production by by Miss D'Arcy Drollinger and all at SF Oasis. This time with a modern comical gender bending retelling of the 70's cult coming-of-age film. Don't miss Debbie Does Dallas The Musical! If you're lucky, you might find yourself hanging out with the cast for a cocktail following the hijinks! Love this place! http://bit.ly/OasisSFEvents

Tho there are other Big Hits on Saturday in my Best Of picks for this week including Vinyl & friends ft. Monday, Sac for BLUES TRAVELER  at California State Fair.

Tuesday, we'll be in the hood for The Psychedelic Furs plus Robyn Hitchcock at The Fillmore. After the show, we'll head across the street to Boom Boom Room. When I am asked where the next place is to go and I say Boom Boom Room, the next question is often, "who's playing?" To which my answer is generally, "Does it Matter?" but this Tuesday is RAFA'S ONE MAN BAND & FRIENDS feat. Cochrane.McMillan & Eric Diberardino of Tea Leaf Green}  at Boom Boom Room. (Hmmm "ONE Man Band & Friends...?)

Wednesday, 7/26, is the first of two nights with Jack Johnson at The Greek. Look for an interview from BISS contributing editor, Josh Danson, with John Cragie who will be opening that first show.

A few weeks ago, The Crooked Stuff kicked off their residency night at Boom Boom Room and it was a pretty epic night! I strongly encourage you to see them this their second night in the bi-weekly series next wednesday.

Thursday, you have another chance to catch Jack Johnson at The Greek. This time with local fave ALO opening up. Staying in the East bay after the show?  Scott Amendola Quartet w/ Jenny Scheinman, John Schott and Zach Ostroff (**WIN TICKETS**) is at Ivy Room.

Here in the city on Thursday of next week,  Smoked Out Soul presents: DJ Shortkut, KingMost & Special Guests  at Monarch; Atta Kid **WIN TICKETS** is at Madrone Art Bar; amd TODD STOOPS  feat. Reed Mathis, Jay Lane & Cochrane McMillan **WIN TICKETS** at Boom Boom Room .
