Tuesday, May 6, 2008 - Realistic Orchestra -  Stevie Wonder birthday show!! @ Bruno's 10pm

$10 cover ***Win Tickets!***

Jazz Mafia presents the second annual Stevie Wonder show celebrating his 58th birthday this month (he was born May 13th, 1950). Stevie, as many of you know, is a prolific songwriter, someone who has touched peoples hearts and minds with his music with incredible consistency for so many years, and we're celebrating his genius with an ALL STEVIE SHOW!! I think this may be the first time we've done this actually, almost all Stevie tunes, with a couple of surprises thrown in for good measure. This month Adam and other jazz mafia members are bringing in the fruits of their hard work transcribing and arranging Stevie Wonder tunes and we have the Jazz Mafia soul choir joining us to sing many a tune, but we'll have a few instrumental arrangements to stretch peoples minds and move some butts as well.

We are all OneMama living on OneMother Earth...Let's help each other and heal this planet.

About OneMama: OneMama was founded as a nonprofit organization with a mission to bring prosperity and health to people all over the world by empowering women as caregivers, mothers, businesswomen and agents of change for their rural communities.
OneMama puts special focus on women, specifically midwives who are often at the center of these impoverished communities. For example, in Uganda, 90-95% of women have their babies with a midwife. Women in late term pregnancy travel by foot for miles in order to give birth with a midwife they trust. At times, a single midwife nurtures all of the mothers and infants of an entire community- thus, quite literally being one mother for all: One Mama. It is the woman, the midwife, the mother and the men and children who love them who bring these communities to life. OneMama is the nurturer, the protector, and the source of life for those in need.

OneMama's mission begins with a pilot program in Uganda.  This program provides a medical clinic and supplies, along with onsite health and financial education for midwives and their clients. Clinic participants learn about family planning, pre and postnatal care, and economic sustainability. The participants, whether they are mothers, fathers, midwives, or volunteers must contribute back to OneMama, creating a unified support system. We will eventually replicate this program in different communities around the globe.

Interested in donating to or volunteering for OneMama?
You will receive a cultural education, a new perspective, a sense of global connection and a life-changing experience in return.
We welcome any and all contributions! www.onemama.org/give.html

The whole concept of Afrolicious is to pay respect and homage to the rythm's of the Afro-diaspora with a heavy bump, a swing, an infectious groove. The sounds come from the global village and include but are not limited to Afro-Beat, Afro-Cuban, Latin funk, Afro-Brasiliero, Global funk, Balkan beats, Jamaican riddims, Afro-Disco, global breakbeats and electronic music (house, disco, big-beat, hip-hop)  that has drawn clearly on the sounds of the Afro-diaspora.
