Best of the BISS List
By Staff Writer: Casey Sol
Hey BISS Listers! I had a great time out in the desert soaking up too much sun & sand at Joshua Tree Music Festival. If you didn't make it, be sure to check out the line-up and discover some really incredible bands from all over the planet! Those of you who participated in Bay to Breakers - that looked like quite the crazy party, way to go! Anyways, we have a ton of great shows happening all over this week, so if you're up for a little road trip, go ahead and pack up the car! If you're staying around The Bay, we have more than enough dance parties to get you excited!
On Wednesday, we went to one of my favorite Bay Area venues, Ashkenaz, to catch STU ALLEN & MARS HOTEL **WIN TICKETS** for a little mid-week dance party.
If you're more in the mood for some good ole' fashion rock & roll tonight, Thursday, THE WHO with SLYDIGS will be playing over at the Oracle Arena. For something completely different, it's AFROBRAZILIAN NIGHT w/ AFROFUNK EXPERIENCE, ANTONIO GUEDES & THE BJILLAQUILES, BATALA SAN FRANCISCO, plus DJ CARIOCA and DJ GOYO at Rickshaw Stop for some straight up booty shakin' music.
On Friday, we have a couple easy destination shows for you get-away kids. NEW RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE will be at Moe's Alley in Santa Cruz and THE B-52'S with GREG KIHN BAND are playing at the beautiful, Mountain Winery, in Saratoga. However, we do have some really special shows right here at home. The international blues treasure and all around badass, TAJ MAHAL, will be playing his first of three nights at Yoshi's after just coming off a European tour. If you haven't seen Taj before, I totally suggest going to at least one of these nights! Over at Terrapin Crossroads, another not to miss show (if only we could be everywhere...), we have JOHN SCOFIELD with WIL BLADES & SCOTT AMENDOLA.
THE PRIMAVERA 4th ANNUAL GROOVE SESSIONS: "PROJECT WOO" starts off our Saturday party decisions with THE MONOPHONICS & MJ'S BRASS BOPPERS at Bottom of the Hill. At Neck of the Woods we have an all-day music festival, HIBBITY DIBBITY PRESENTS: 2ND ANNUAL BELLYMAN'S BALL, with $4 dollar Anchor Steam Draught all day! The Presidio Yacht Club will be hosting LUMANATION if you're feeling some high energy reggae beats. TURKUAZ & THE NTH POWER are back at Slim's to remind us of how awesome Jazz Fest was for those that went...or just give those who didn't a chance to pretend they were there. For the weekend road warriors - JASON BONHAM'S LED ZEPPELIN EXPERIENCE with FRANCISCO FERNANDEZ will be in Saratoga at the Mountain Winery and one of our very own Bay Area favorites, MIDNIGHT NORTH, will be gracing the stage at The Crepe Place in Santa Cruz! Don't forget the second of three nights at Yoshi's with TAJ MAHAL either!
On to Sunday! WAVY GRAVY'S 80TH BIRTHDAY BENEFIT FOR SEVA FOUNDATION will be held at the SOMO Village Event Center in Rohnert Park featuring YONDER MOUNTAIN STRING BAND, STEVE EARLE, JOHN POPPER, NEW RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE, DEAD WINTER CARPENTERS, THE T SISTERS, ACHILLES WHEEL, GRATEFUL BLUEGRASS BOYS, SAMBADROP MARCHING BAND, CLOWN CONSPIRACY AND SURPRISE GUESTS! Sounds like quite the party to me! Back at Mountain Winery is the southern rock all-stars, LYNYRD SKYNYRD. Over in Petaluma, we have LEON RUSSELL, LEE GALLAGHER & THE HALLELUJAH at McNear's Mystic Theater. Last, but not least, you still have one more chance to catch TAJ MAHAL at Yoshi's, don't blow it!
As Monday rolls around and cloning yourself to be at all these great shows all week hasn't worked yet...there is still a chance to see the rock 'n' roll music legend LEON RUSSELL alongside RILEY ETHERRIDGE at Yoshi's!
Whewww, that's just a taste of the week! Read on for more ticket giveaways and upcoming shows!
