SF in NOLA: Spotlight on Boom Boom Room Presents at Jazz Fest 2016

The Boom Boom Room is a legendary venue in the heart of the musically historic Fillmore District of San Francisco. Those who live for live music around the San Francisco bay and beyond cherish this venue as a place to see music every night of the week, during the in-between hours of morning and evening, a place where super jams occur, new funk bands are founded, and friendships between party professionals are made. What many locals of the area, and regulars of the venue do not realize however, is that the Boom Boom Room is indeed more than just a venue. Rather the Boom Boom Room is actually called the Boom Boom Room Presents, and is a production company targeting the growth and continuation of live music within the funk, jazz, soul and jam genres. The company has produced shows throughout the city of San Francisco as well as throughout the country, in various major cities. However, without fail, every year, for going on two decades, the Boom Boom Room has presented mind-blowing shows in New Orleans during Jazz Fest.

The art of creating a super-jam or super-group can be tricky, and indeed, Zander Andreas, owner of the Boom Boom Room Presents, has mastered the art. Placing a line up of masters together, in order to create a certain sound, involves having an ear for what each artist sounds like, and then consequently what they may sound like when placed together. For the past two decades, Zander has taken advantage of the artistic community that comes together during New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, by picking out legendary artists and forming super-groups and projects that musicians and fans alike look forward to on an annual basis. As New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival enters its 46th year, the Boom Boom Room Presents enters its 17th year at Jazz Fest, once again putting together mind bending late night shows to complement the after-hours nature of New Orleans.

This year there are eight shows to focus on, as the Boom Boom Room Presents its 17th Anniversary of Shows In New Orleans, another run of epic shows that will be “Boogalooin’ at Jazz Fest 2016”. From April 21 to April 29, San Francisco's BooM BooM RooM Presents is bringing yet another extravaganza of ‘all-night shows’ to the Big Easy at ONE EYED JACKS (on Toulouse Street) & THE MAISON (on Frenchmen Street) including multiple shows per night, as well as one Super funky show at DRAGON’S DEN.  All tickets can be purchased at www.boomboomtickets.com.

Kicking off the run, on Thursday April 21, 2016 will be STANTON MOORE TRIO with Stanton Moore, Robert Walter and Scott Metzger. Featuring members of  Galactic, GreyBoy Allstars and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, along with DJ Kevvy Kev the Boom Boom Room’s Resident DJ of Wu Tang Clan. The show will take place at The Maison 508 Frenchmen St, New Orleans, LA, doors are at 9PM, show is 9:30PM until 3:45 AM, tickets are $20 adv.

On Sunday April 24^th 2016 the first of the WORSHIP MY ORGAN series will include Marco Benevento, Skerik, Robert Walter, Simon Lott & DJ Logic. This show featuring members of  Benevento Russo duo, Les Claypool, GreyBoy Allstars, Robert Walter’s 20^th Congress and Project Logic will be taking place at One Eyed Jacks, 615 Toulouse St, New Orleans, LA. Doors are at 8 pm, show is 9PM until 130AM and tickets are $30 adv. The worship my organ series is a MUST SEE for organ and saxophone fans alike!

After the Worship My Organ show, Sunday April 24^th 2016 will also be the night that
KARL DENSON, ERIC KRASNO, STANTON MOORE & WIL BLADES perform. This show is a late night gig, starting at 2 am, and featuring members of Soulive, Lettuce, Galactic, W-Beez and Greyboy Allstars, along with Wu Tang Clan’s DJ Kevvy Kev. Stick around One Eyed Jacks, 615 Toulouse St, New Orleans, LA.. The doors are at 1:45AM and the show is 2AM until 5:30AM, tickets are only $25 adv. 

Get down on Monday April 25^th  2016 to super group Frequinox, featuring Robert Walter, Donald Harrison, Stanton Moore, Scott Metzger and Robert Mercurio. Orgone will be opening, and the show features members of GreyBoy Allstars, Headhunters, Galactic, Jazz Mafia and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead. DJ Kevvy Kev will be spinning in between sets at One Eyed Jacks, 615 Toulouse St, New Orleans, LA, the doors are at 8PM and the show is 9PM until 4:30 AM+. Tickets in advance for $25. 

Ivan Neville, Eric Lindell, Stanton Moore and Robert Mercurio will be performing as Dragon Smoke on Tuesday April 26^th 2016 along with DJ Logic. Featuring members of Galactic, the Neville Brothers, and Dumpstaphunk, this show takes place at One Eyed Jacks, 615 Toulouse St, New Orleans, LA. The doors are at 8PM show is 9PM until 130AM and tickets are $35 adv.

On Tuesday April 26^th 2016, the late night show is everyone’s favorite annual super-group The Whip! This 2-6 am show features Robert Walter, Corey Henry, Eric McFadden, Brian J, Mike Dillon, Nate Edgar and Eric Bolivar, and is going to be so funky! Featuring members of  Pimps of Joytime, Nth Power, Galactic, Greyboy Allstars, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, and resident DJ Kevvy Kev, One Eyed Jacks, 615 Toulouse St, New Orleans, LA  will be rockin into the wee hours of the morning.

Thursday April 28^th 2016 features a late night show, from 11:00 pm-4:30 am with Sasha Masakowski, Brian J, Simon Lott and DJ Kevvy Kev. Called COSMIC DANCE JUBILEE, this show at The Dragon’s Den features members of Pimps of Joytime, Wu Tang Clan, and Robert Walter’s 20th Congress. Dragon’s Den is at 435 Esplanade St, New Orleans, LA, doors are at 11PM, the show is 12AM until 4:30 AM and tickets are $15 adv.

The last show presented by Boom Boom Room is perhaps the most epic. Worship My Organ II, on Friday April 29^th 2016, is a late night jam, from 1:30 - 5:30 am. This show features legends John Medeski, Skerik, Robert Walter, Adam Deitch & DJ Kevvy Kev as they get down at The Maison 508 Frenchmen St, New Orleans, LA.
