It certainly was a beautiful sunny Thursday in SF, wasn't it BISS Listers? Kinda nice after all that soggy rain. Sure, it was a tad chilly, but with this week's plethora of live musical options, it won't matter what the thermometer says--just shake your booty and warm right up!
Tonight, get another taste of my favorite little festival, For The Funk Of It, at the Boom Boom Room with MOJO GREEN plus Swoop Unit. (**Congrats to Walt on winning a pair of tickets!)
If you have been to For The Funk Of It in the quaint little town of Belden then you know how awesome it has been the last four years. Taking place this year from August 11th-13th, the lineup is already looking stellar, with the likes of Zigaboo Modeliste and the New Aahkestra, Vokab Kompany, Soul Scratch, Katdelic, Mojo Green with Hornmageddon, & Tracorum already slated to perform.
BISS List is the first to inform you all, right here and now, that ZuhG, & Motherlode have been added to the bill. I happen to have it on good authority that the next bands to be announced are gonna take it to the next level! I also have it on good authority that Early Bird tickets, which are only $100!--are only going to be available until March 1st. And I ALSO have it on good authority that BISS is giving away a pair of tickets to the BISS Lister who spreads the word the most about For The Funk of It between now and March 1st!

For those of you still feeling the Valentine's Day love, the vibe continues with ALO's annual Tour D'Amour with three shows at The Fillmore this weekend. Friday night is my only night out (doctor's orders), so I will be getting to the Fillmore early to catch Brooklyn's own Moon Hooch opening up the festivities. I know quite a few of you are taking the young ones to the Sing Along For Kids 3pm matinee show on Saturday afternoon, while others still are hitting Saturday night with Twiddle opening. With these and all the other amazing live musical choices (yay, choices!) you can always count on the Boom Boom Room for an epic after party. This weekend truly delivers! Check out BOLIVAR'S BAY AREA JAM featuring Eric Bolivar, Jennifer Hartswick, Will Bernard, Wil Blades, Victor Little, & Jazz Mafia Horns. Another FTFOI favorite, BIG STICKY MESS opens on Friday night (**WIN TICKETS**) while Zeal Levin opens on Saturday (**WIN TICKETS**).
Also on Friday night, friend of BISS List, Raphael Sarria of SF's La Gente (reggae, hip-hop, salsa, cumbia and more) will be headlining at the Ivy Room alongside the East Bay's own, LoCura (rumba flamenca and reggae, cumbia & ska). If you haven't danced to the infectious grooves of a La Gente show, then now is your time to shine. Expect a high energy dance party, framed by DJ Izzy Wise's electro world dub mashup. I am hoping to get out early on Saturday evening to see my buddy Daniel Cohen playing with his teenage instrumental power quintet, DangerAte at the Ocean Ale House. Expect wild interpretations of Michael Jackson, The Who, Herbie Hancock & White Stripes songs. You need to see it to believe it!
There are so many other amazing shows to see, hear, feel, & dance to this weekend, but being on doctor's house arrest, I will be counting on you to represent on my behalf. I know you've definitely got me covered at The New Parish for THE HIP REPLACEMENTS (feat. members of Mother Hips) (*WIN TICKETS). And I have no doubt that I am double covered for MELVIN SEALS & JGB at The Warfield (**WIN TICKETS**). Can you believe that it's Mardi Gras again next week? Brick & Mortar is continuing their annual tradition of hosting the best second line Mardi Gras parade in SF. This year Fat Tuesday falls on 2/28. The march begins at 5pm @ Patricia's Green in Hayes Valley near Biergarten (on Octavia St.) and ends at Brick and Mortar. This parade will feature Brass Mafia, MJ's Brass Boppers & North Beach Brass Band. The festivities don't end when the parade arrives at our final destination! Continue the Mardi Gras celebration at Brick & Mortar with a full live show featuring Jazz Mafia Accomplices & MJ's Brass Boopers (**WIN TICKETS)! Get ready to throw some beads!
